Sangita Sounds was born from a simple belief: music is medicine. Not metaphorically, literally. The right frequencies, the right harmonics, the right intention can shift consciousness, heal hearts, and connect us to something larger than ourselves.
Founded in 2000 by Darren Sangita, the label emerged from the golden era of psychedelic trance, a time when “Darren Dragonfly” was label manager of Dragonfly Records and the Goa / Psychedelic Trance sound was reshaping electronic music. London was an epicentre of a global sonic revolution. But our roots go deeper than any single genre.
The Journey
Darren’s musical path spans over 30 years and multiple continents. Eight years living and recording in India with traditional music masters. Nearly two decades immersed in the buzz of Brixton’s dub culture. Performances at legendary Psychedleic events and festivals including Glastonbury, Boom and Ozora.
Through it all, one thread remained constant: the pursuit of sound that transforms consciousness.
Sacred Collaborations
We’ve been privileged to record and collaborate with some of India’s finest traditional musicians:
•Sukhdev Mishra of Banaras — master violinist steeped in the classical traditions of one of India’s holiest cities.
•Pandit Ranajit Sengupta of Kolkata — virtuoso sarod player and torchbearer of the Maihar gharana lineage.
•Debasis Haldar of Kolkata — expressive sarangi player whose bowing brings the voice of the instrument to life.
•Haradhan Das Baul — carrying the ecstatic mystical tradition of Bengal’s wandering Baul singers.
These collaborations aren’t fusion experiments but humble attempts to serve these ancient traditions while skillfully blending with futuristic timbres and tones, sharing their transformative power with new audiences.
